YoYB: Poetry, Friday, Winter/Spring Session #1 with Jennifer Franklin (via Zoom)

January 5 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

$320.00 – $385.00

This is a six week class taught on Zoom starting on Friday January 5th and ending on Wedensday February 9th.

You have written the first draft of your full-length collection. Now, we need to order all of the poems, decide if there should be sections, revise each of the poems, settle on the title, and most importantly—remove any poems that are not as strong. This series of classes begins at the start of 2024 and goes through the year. A combination of workshopping new and old poems and deep revision, serious critique, deadlines, and mutual support, the goal is to submit to book prizes and chapbook contests in fall 2024. Participants are encouraged to enroll for every six-week session. Each six-week session, a maximum of three manuscripts will be reviewed–one every other week. The other week we will review two poems each. New students must email [email protected] with a synopsis of your manuscript and ten pages of poetry to request permission to register. Class is capped at 11 students. Do not register for this class without an invitation from Jennifer.

Jennifer Franklin (AB Brown University, MFA Columbia University School of the Arts) is the author of three full-length poetry collections, including If Some God Shakes Your House (Four Way Books, March 2023) and No Small Gift (Four Way Books, 2018). Jennifer teaches craft in the Manhattanville MFA Program and has been teaching manuscript revision at HVWC for the past ten years. Her poetry has been published widely in print and online including American Poetry Review, Bennington Review, Beloit, Gettysburg Review, Guernica, JAMA, The Nation, Paris Review, “poem-a-day” on poets.org, Poetry Northwest, Prairie Schooner, and Rhino. She is the recipient of a 2021 NYFA/City Artist Corps grant for poetry and a 2021 CRCF Literature Award. www.jenniferfranklinpoet.com
