This course will cover how to understand the role a literary agent plays in book publishing.

Jackie Ko is a literary agent at The Wylie Agency, a privately owned literary agency with offices in New York and London, which has been in business for over 40 years.  The Wylie Agency seeks to represent the best writers in every form, in both fiction and nonfiction, for the life of their careers, and to work internationally without the use of subagents.  The agency represents, among many others, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Paul Beatty, Alexander Chee, Rachel Cusk, Dave Eggers, Elizabeth Gilbert, Miranda July, Colum McCann, Orhan Pamuk, Sally Rooney, and Salman Rushdie, as well as literary estates.  She has worked at the Wylie Agency since 2007, and represents authors including Kaveh Akbar, Jokha Alharthi, Camille Bordas, Victoria Chang, Akwaeke Emezi, Cristina Rivera Garza, Chris Knapp, and Christina Sharpe, among those with recently published or forthcoming books.
