Join Jennifer Franklin, Program Director in person at HVWC as we welcome four wonderful local poets and celebrate their new collections.

Amy Holman is the author of the collections, Captive (Saddle Road Press, 2023) and Wrens Fly Through This Opened Window (Somondoco Press, 2010), as well as four poetry chapbooks. Her poems have been on Verse Daily and The Best American Poetry, and nominated by journal editors for Best of the Net and Pushcart Prizes. She had a micro-rresidency through NYC Poets Afloat on a historic barge in the New York harbor in April 2021. She has taught for many years at The Hudson Valley Writers Center, and she is one of the poetry editors at The Westchester Review. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she works as a literary consultant, and writes the Substack newsletter What Where: Literary Journals.

Silvina López Medin was born in Buenos Aires and lives in New York. Her books of poetry include: La noche de los bueyes(Madrid, 1999), winner of the Loewe Foundation International Young Poetry Prize, Esa sal en la lengua para decir manglar (Buenos Aires, 2014), 62 brazadas (Buenos Aires, 2015), and Excursion (Buenos Aires, 2020). Excursion was selected by Mary Jo Bang as the winner of the 2019 Oversound Chapbook Prize (Oversound, 2020). Her hybrid poetry book Poem That Never Ends was a winner of the 2019 Essay Press Contest (Essay Press, forthcoming 2021). Her play Exactamente bajo el sol (staged at Teatro del Pueblo, 2008) was granted the Plays Third Prize by the Argentine Institute of Theatre. She co-translated Anne Carson’s Eros the Bittersweet (2015) and Home Movies (2016), a book by Robert Hass, into Spanish. Her poems and other pieces have appeared in Ploughshares,Hyperallergic, Brooklyn Rail, and MoMA/post, among others. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from NYU is an editor at Ugly Duckling Presse and teaches bilingual poetry workshops at the Hudson Valley Writers Center.

Ruth Danon is the author of four books of poetry— Turn Up The Heat (Nirala, 2023), Word Has It (Nirala, 2018), Limitless Tiny Boat (BlazeVOX, 2016), and Triangulation From A Known Point (North Star Line, 1990). Her book of literary criticism, Work In The English Novel, was reissued by Routledge in 2020. Her work has been published widely in the US and abroad in publications such as 2Horatio, The Paris Review, Tupelo Quarterly, Barrow Street, Versal, and Fence. She has been interviewed in a number of journals including The Kenyon Review, Rain Taxi, and Pank. Recently her work was selected as a finalist in Tupelo Quarterly’s Four Quartets project and Robert Creeley selected one of her poems for inclusion in Best American Poetry 2002. Ruth lives in Beacon, NY. For 23 years she taught creative and expository writing in the program she designed and directed for adult undergraduates at NYU’s School of Professional Studies. She retired from NYU in 2017. After retiring she founded Live Writing: A Project for the Reading, Writing, and Performance of Poetry.

Tiffany Troy is the author of Dominus (BlazeVox, September 2023) and the chapbook When Ilium Burns (Bottlecap Press), as well as co-translator of Santiago Acosta’s The Coming Desert /El próximo desierto (forthcoming, Alliteration Publishing House), in collaboration with Acosta and the Women in Translation project at the University of Wisconsin. Her reviews and interviews of emerging and established voices are published or forthcoming in The Adroit Journal, The Cortland Review, The Los Angeles Review, Matter, The Laurel Review, EcoTheo Review, Rain Taxi, New World Writing, Hong Kong Review of Books and Tupelo Quarterly, where she serves as Managing Editor.

Ellen Devlin is the author of two chapbooks, Rita (2019) and Heavenly Bodies at the MET (Cervena Barva Press, 2023). Her poems can be found in The Cortland Review, Ekphrasis, Lime Hawk Review, New Ohio Review, PANK, Poet Lore, The Lost River Review, The Sow’s Ear, Women’s Studies Quarterly Review, Westchester Review, and other journals, most recently Muleskinner (2023) and Beyond Words (2023).
