WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Teen Summer Theatre: Playwriting and Performance Camp

July 22 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Teen Summer Theatre: Playwriting and Performance Camp
July 22-26
in person at HVWC

Participants should arrive on Monday wearing a costume of their choice and with one prop of their choice. We start off by introducing our “characters” and any special talents we wish to showcase (Can you sing? Juggle? Have a great Australian accent? Show us!). Students will then branch off into small groups and create a 10- Minute play based on the characters and props that have shown up. We will spend the week writing, workshopping, and rehearsing our scripts.

On Friday, July 26, the participants will return to HVWC at 7:00pm for the debut performance of their play. Family, friends, and community members are invited to attend.

Misty Yarnall is a writer and teaching artist. She received an individual artist grant through the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts to produce her original play My Medea in May 2024. She has worked as a stage manager at Blackfriars Theatre and is on the board of Breadcrumbs Productions. She actively teaches creative workshops through libraries, homeschool co-ops, and nonprofit organizations. She is passionate about creating brave spaces for people of all ages to share their stories.
